FI E ARIS This window frames life with sweetness and beauty as it presents us with the l world of sound and form. New to the Music Department this year were Mrs. Benton, Mrs. Higgins, and l Brooks Davis. V i l There was an unusual situation in the Art Department where Mr. Kingma took over a class for Mrs. Kingma until she could be with us second semester. The King- ii mas have brought a renewed art emphasis to Westmont. One of the problems this year was the lack of facilities for the Art Department. Crafts could not be offered at all, and the Astronomy Building was used between , science classes as an art lab. i it ix l T Choir tour in Southern California this Spring was again an unforgettable ex- - perience. This year for the first time the quartet joined Choir tour, singing in the choir as well as doing quartet numbers. l i 1. l li ' il ll - 'i ll l-, ii il i i l l i Janet Sanborn takes individual interest in each of her pupils l Joyce McMechan, a Junior, is a capable student teacher of voice l

ACCREDITATIO Educational Policies Committee is very important to the student body as a whole, since it determines ev- erything related to the academic policy of Westmont. Several changes have been made this year regarding admission procedure, ad- mission requirements, graduation requirements, and probationary status of students. Among other things they pass on all declarations of maiors and on student petitions. They also set up the academic cal- endar, determine admission require- ments, and organize the summer session. The work done by this Committee meant a great deal to the final accrediting of Westmont College. Throw open the windows! Shout the good news! Word of accreditation by the Western Col- lege Association broke on campus with an official announcement by Dr. Voskuyl in chapel on Thurs- day morning, .March l3. Actually, Dr. Voskuyl came directly from the Western College Associa- tion meeting at the nearby Miramar Hotel to bring the happy tidings to the Westmont family. Dr. Mitchell Briggs, Executive Secretary of the Western College Association, made the official an- nouncement that Westmont College was now na- tionally accredited by virtue of the action taken by the association to admit Westmont as a mem- ber in full standing. News of Westmont's important academic step forward spread quickly throughout the nation and the world. Typical of the congratulatory tele- grams that began to pour into Dr. Voskuyl's office was the one from Dr. Edward John Carnell, Presi- dent of Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, . . . the cause of Christ throughout the world will be greatly strengthened by Westmont's Accredita- tion . . .
