You can, however, make an increasing effort to see more clearly the importance of every day and opportunity in the future, you can resolve to hold fast to these associations that have meant so much to you during these years, and you must meet this unknown fu- ture as an adventure that can make your life of greatest service to others and happiness to yourself. I am proud to graduate with you. - PRESIDENT OF THE STATE TEACHERS COLLEGE AT WESTFIELD • 6 • The class of 1938 becomes the first class to pass the portals of the Westfield State Teach- ers College under my regime. I have not had the good fortune to watch you progress dur- ing the past four years, but I have seen the final pattern into which you have been moulded. You go forth with every prospect of emu- lating the successful careers of those who have preceded you, and with the knowledge that you are equipped to train the youth of this great country with methods that are sound. You have served your apprenticeship well. Your success in your life ' s work is as- sured if you but follow the precepts laid down by your instructors and advisers. Your college wishes you a happy life and a successful career. Remember she is Alma Mater . You will ahvays find the candle burning in the window to point out the way back home , there to find the same directive force ever at your command for comfort and service. Each, of those who have left us, has contributed much which will never be for- gotten. In remembrance of their infinite devotion and under- standing, we pay tribute to the following people : M. Grace Fickett, M.A. Her voice was ever soft, gentle, and low; an excellent thing in woman. Shakespeare Louise E. Snow As the sun colours flowers so does art colour life. Lubbock George M. Crutsinger, Ph.D. His ready speech flowed fair and free In phrase of gentlest courtesy. Scott George W. Haupt, Ph.D. He is a gentleman, because his nature Is kind and affable to every creature. Bornfield Pela F. Braucher, M.S. What smiles! They were the effluence of fine intellect, of true courage; they lit up her marked lineaments . . . like reflections from the aspect of an angel. Charlotte Bronte Ruth E. Boylan The Christian life is a long and continual tendency of our hearts towards the eternal goodness which we desire upon earth. Fenelon Marguerite Moran A cheerful spirit is one of the most valuable gifts ever bestoived upon humanity.
