PREFACE After choosing the theme Look to This Day The 'JIIOIOUWLJII that a. , ears on . . l a l M7 from a poem of the fourthecentury, Indlan dramatist the following page is that of the VoliveStella asculpturedreplica and poet, Kalidasha, the Annual Staff began to study of larger Buddhist images of an Eastern civilization. The wisdom expressed in the poem enrlierperiod. The figure reveals Seemed clearly as true today as it was over a millenion the richness in both the Teligz'o'n. ago. This relation of the past to the present fascinated 77d Tl 0f the India of 522 AD- the staff. Visiting the Cincinnati Art Museum and doing research in the public library, they learned that the people of ancient India possessed a very rich lil'e- rich in art, in philosophy, in literature, in science, in social order, in law, and in religion. The writers of the Sancrit applied the wisdom ol India to daily existence. All the truths and realities of one,s life, they said, are found in the passing of each day. One's lile of yesterday and of tomorrow is only a vision; but, if one can give true fullness 10 the present, all his life will have meaning. This philosophy, so well expressed in the poem, seemed worthy of consideration, so the Annual Stall has attempted to apply it to the many phases of school life. The photographs, concerned with Oriental art, which appear througlmut the book are a sampling of the treasures ol the Eastern rooms at the Cincin- nati Art Museum.
