For two straight years the Pioneer Varsity has captured their division of CIF. NEW BEGINNINGS Mr, Craig Haugen This is not only Haugen ' s first year at Western, but also his first year as a principal. He has spent his entire career in this district, working his way up from teacher to his present position. I sincerely feel lucky to have been appointed to Western. It ' s very refreshing to be in such a positive atmosphere. He sees Pioneer Pride as a need and very impor- tant, particularly in academics. When asked how he was going to boost the spirit at Western, he replied, How can I? The spirit is great already. All I can hope for is to maintain and support it. However, he would like to help the students reach their full potential. You need to expect more from the students to get more out of them. If you never expect them to do bet- ter than average, they won ' t. Haugen had some exposure to Western, having worked for a time at Orangeview, but his first en- counter with Western ' s staff was impressive. Dur- ing the summer I had the chance to meet every single teacher. At some time or another, everyone of them came through the office. That kind of dedication is unheard of. He feels there is a very positive attitude in the staff that is transferred to the students. Ms, Manemann Manemann comes to West- ern with years of exper- ience as an English teacher. She was very impressed with the kindness and co- operation of the students at Western. Ms. Bosna This returning counselor is very glad to be back at Western after her one year leave. She now handles Schol- arships and Finan- cial Aid, also. Mr, Pascal One of the things he enjoys most is watching kids grow from the time they are a freshman to the time they leave Western as a Senior.
