Baieiafl Western s baseball squad boasted at the begrnmg of the season a relatrvely green outfreld and an exper renced mfreld Metropolrtan baseball a trachtronal late starter began on May 7 The Cowboys faced U of D rn the season opener The Western team had n1ne lettermen from last year They were Tom Lawson Ilm Brehmer Ierry Larson AllC1ty Angelo Maeso Don Cameron Nrck Stepaman Ron Mardrros Vaughn Solakran and Ralph Carey The usual 1nf1eld was composed of hm Brehmer at frrst Angelo Maeso at second Oran W1ll1ams the new comer of the 1nf1eld crew a short stop and probably Western s all t1me th1rd baseman who often acted as f1eld general Don Cameron Coach I-Hggms outheld was composed of the regular outfreld frxture who was cleanup batter rn the lrneup Ralph Carey and Andy Prank ArtEl1as Nrck Stepaman Rrchard Knapp and Vauahn Solakran all of whom were swrtched around regularly The usual startrng battery for the Cowboy n1ne was Tom Lawson and Ierry Larson Mutt to Ieff who have been a prtcher catcher combrnatron for many years They even worked together 1n therr Detrort Baseball Federatron days Lawson when not p1tch1ng 1S sent rnto the outfreld and hrs brg bat rs a threat to opposmg hurlers Terry Larson also can play the outfxeld be1ng a frne frelder Ralph Carey was the b1g gun rn the Western attack last year In the Chadsey aame Ralph blasted a game w1nn1ng homer Lawson also was a v1tal person 1n the fContmued n back of book!
