Denby 39-24 meets. 24 victories for Western. That's the record of Western's championship swimming team coached by Mr. Wilbur Gunnerson. head of Western's Athletic Dept. The first meet of the season was against Northwestern. Western coming through with a 57-34 victory. Southwestern took a 71-20 beating in the first Cowboy home meet. Our tankmen the next week. whipped Mac- kenzie 74-17. Chadsey fell next. 69-22. In swimming against Cooley. we met our strongest opponents. but Western finally came out on top 57-34. Redford became our sixth victory. Western taking this one by a 59-32 tally. STARS OF '41 AND 42 Astourmn Morden Pushman Kryqoski, cmd Butler Bob Pushman and the free-style relay team provided the fireworks in the Central meet. Iohn Krygoski. Iohn Roberts. Frank Maiques. and Pushman smashing the relay mark. Western easily coming out on top. A well balanced Western swimming team easily cap- tured the city individual championship. held December ll at Northwestern. Western walked off with the top honors in three events. the breast-stroke. 200-yard free- style. and individual medley. The Cowboys closed the dual meet season undefeated and qualified to meet Denby for the city dual meet championship, taking place December 18 at Northwestern with the Cowboys triumphing 52-39. The Cowboys were treated roughly by Redford in the iirst meet. losing 96-13. Ted Nagy won our only first, in the pole vault. and took second in the high jump. The followinq week Western met Southwestern's Prospectors. dropping that one by the heartbreaking score of 56-53. The team showed much better all-around strength. as Nagy took three firsts . . . the pole vault, high jump. and high hurdles. Coach Matheson's team seems to be developing as the season progresses. and we wish them luck.
