KENNEDY COMFORT A BLACKEDGED FLAG Come, Ghost Comfort a Black-edged Flag Who mourns a slain Hope. A Hope, strong, and vigorous Brave and smiling Over a mushroom cloud. So vital and quick. Yet one man V ith deadly power cheap but costly Cut a path drawn by six gray horses, followed by a riderless charger, a veiled mother, and a weeping Eagle. Come. Ghost, Comfort a Black-edged Flag ho mourns a slaughtered Dream A dream, followed by muffled drums And sabres flashing in the bitter sun Along the bleak-filled street. So silently and quick. Yet one man With deadly care and no care at all Caned a course encased in bronze Draped with purity, courage, freedom, tears of fifty Stars, and the salute of a baby. Come, Ghost. Comfort a Black-edged Flag Who mourns a fallen Leader A leader, once young with wisdom, Now ageless as the memory of men Within an eternal Flame. So brilliant and quick. Yet one sound vivid to all and all too vivid Crowned our Cause with immortality, Our Hope with endless dignity, Our Dream with lasting Peace. Come, Ghost, Comfort a Black-edged Flag Who mourns. J. A typically rosy and therefore dreary love story, as presented symbolically in the moonlight of the first act, is transformed by the tense drama of the sun in the sec- ond act. The leafy-green rendezvous in the forest, the arranged rape, the rose- colored glasses all give way under the pangs of reality, and the Boy and Girl vow to come out of their worlds of fan- tasy to let the world happen to them. 35 LOVE RIDES THE RAILS APRIL 1963 Complete with tinkling piano, the melodrama, Love Rides The Rails. or Will the Mail Train Run Tonight? is a faith- ful replica of the turn-of-the century play. It comes complete with stereotyped characters, held-up train, and happy ending, and is a welcome relief from the weary sophistication of which the playgoer may find himself a part. No pragmatic rational- izations here, just healthy fun at its funniest. Will the Mail Train run Tonight LOVE RIDES THE RAILS by Morland Carey -But, My Dear Fifi, Oh, Carlotta . . For all students it is a memory book: for those who helped to produce it. it is an educational experience: for the college, it is a good-will booster if it is properly prepared. To produce a good MURMURMONTIS, it takes more than words and ideas — and even talent. But the headaches, the mistakes, and the long hours of work are forgotten when the shiny new books get into the hands of the students. That ' s when the real joy comes. That is the end and a new beginning. Mr. Howard Hiner searching for candid. 64 Our First Semester advisor, Mr. Emer- Mr. Creel Cornwell. The most exciting point of the Bobcats ' games was the outstanding play of the defensive unit. The last four games showed only six points scored against Wesleyan, and these on an interception. The play of the defensive unit was instrumental in the homecoming win over Concord, when they scored a safety in the second half to help clinch the game. The defense is only half of the football team, and the offense wasn ' t lacking in their play. The season from that point had its ups and downs, but there were more of the ups. Wesleyan was the only team in the conference to beat the West Virginia Tech five, and the tough Morris Harvey squad. The team com- piled 2047 points in comparison to 1958 for their opposition. There ' s always one clown in the show, as Ca Char plain Pat IV ' - Charlie Miller sinks one more foul. The team consisted mainly of under- classmen, with only three seniors. Pat Mistretta. Don Jamison, and James Cole. They were well represented in the state Tournament, but lost in the quarter finals to Morris Harvey. In the all-conference selections, two bob- cats were placed on the first team. And so as the year draws to a close and the seniors leave with diplomas in hand, the yearbook goes to press. We have hoped to record the action, reaction, and interaction of the Weslevan community during the past year in a meaningful way to all. To pro- duce a good MURMURMONTIS. it takes the workings of many hands and many minds. A special thanks for all the cooperation extended and the long hours of work by the entire staff, Mrs. James Rr ant. Mrs. Darrel Bean, Mr. Ronald Richardson, the photographers, who stayed up late many nights developing last minute pictures, the community of Buckhannon, my roommate, who had to live with yearbook pages and pictures all over the room, the unknown amount of people who aided the staff members, and to those that helped the last few days of school, get the book ready for the printers. A special tribute to the seniors and the best of luck to all of yon and to Miss .Nellie Wilson to whom we have dedicated this book. THANK YOU Beth M.
