PRESIDENT ' S MESSAGE The staff of the 1939 Murmurmontis is presenting to the students and friends of West Virginia Wesleyan College a beautiful and well-arranged yearbook. The administration and faculty have given encouragement to this worthy student enterprise for the double reason that it furnishes oppor- tunity for expression of student talent and ability, as well as good publicity for the college. Students of earlier years at West Virginia Wesleyan College find gen- uine delight in refreshing their memories of those golden days of their youth by looking over the records contained in past Murmurmontis editions. In like manner will the present body of students find enjoyment in future years as they turn the pages of this book. PRESIDENT ROY McCUSKEY, D. D. ROY McCUSKEY In November 1901 Roy McCuskey enrolled in West Virginia Conference Seminary (now West Virginia Wesleyan College) where he was graduated in 1905. He later returned to Wesleyan and received the Bachelor of Arts degree in 1908. Three years later he was awarded the degree of Bachelor of Sacred Theology by Boston University School of Theology. In 1921 he became a member of the Board of Trustees of West Virginia Wesleyan Col- lege and the next year was granted the honorary degree of Doctor of Divin- ity by his alma mater. In June 1931 he was elected to the presidency of this college. Here he helped to organize the Epworth League Institute and has been identified with it ever since. This spring he is completing his eighth year of capable leadership of the college. 12

Doctor Fleming came to the presidency of West Virginia Wesleyan College in August, 1915. Before this he had served as a member of the faculty of Drew Theological Seminary at Madison, New Jersey. During Doctor Fleming ' s leadership here, two financial campaigns, each for a half million dollars, were successfully conducted. In the summer of 1922 he became the president of Baker University at Baldwin, Kansas, where he served for fifteen years. In 1937 the Board of Trustees of West Virginia Wesleyan invited him to return as Vice President of the College and Director of the Semi-Centennial Campaign for One Million Dollars. The campaign is now under way with bright prospects of full success, mark the beginning of a new era in the life of Wesleyan College. Its completion will 14
