Rev. S. L. Beyers. Wi here present to our readers the likeness of the Rev. S. L Boyers, a former President of the West Virginia Confer- ence Seminary. His entire youth was spent in acquiring an education. Many obstacles confronted him in his en- deavo r to obtain a thorough educational training, but with an indomitable will be pushed steadily onward, and overcame them one by one. Not being satisfied with the training received in the public schools, he resolved to enter college. True to his resolve he entered and completed a course of study in each of the following: Ohio Wesleyan, Vanderbilt and Boston Universities from which he received the degrees — A. B., A. M., B. D., and D. D. He then returned to Boston where he spent a year in the School of All Sciences taking Philosophy, Metaphysics, etc. Nine years were then spent in school work — four in the public schools, two as superintendent of the Richwood schools, one as Professor of Latin and Greek in Nappa College, Cal. and two as President of the West Virginia Conference Seminary. Rev. Boyers has been in the regular pastorate of the Methodist Episco- pal Church — Central and East Ohio Conferences, eight years, during which time he has served some of the most important charges in those conferences. He has received into the church over eight hundred per- sons — a lasting monument to his faithful labors. He is a scholarly, re- fined, genial and thorough Christian gentlemen, worthy of the confidence and fellowship of all good people. 13
