MONTICOLA Judge E. G. Smith Judge Smith is a native of West Virginia and of old Harri- son County stock — a true mountaineer. Today, he is recognized as one of the ablest members of the Clarksburg Bar, who, for over thirty years has devoted himself exclusively to the practice of law at Clarksburg and furthering the interests of his Alma Mater, West Virginia University. Judge Smith was born on Horse Run, Harrison County, April 8, 1868. He was reared on his father ' s farm and attended the public schools of West Milford. In later years he came to West Virginia University and received his LL.B. degree in 1889 and in 1892, he received the same degree from Washington and Lee University, which institution he represented in the Southern Intercollegiate Contest in Oratory in 1892 at Vander- bilt University, winning the medal. He was admitted to the bar in 1892 and entered into practice at Clarksburg.
