BaseBAll the junior varsity baseball team goes into its ten game season confident of having a winning season, although there is no team captain, several individuals have made outstanding con¬ tributions, notably steve hughes, the team is directed by coach barnes. SPORTS 175 176 SPORTS girl ' s hockey is one of the most exciting and demanding of high school sports, girls that play hockey must be spirited, dedicated and willing to work with the team, throughout the entire season the spartan girls demonstrated all the qualities of a championship team, there were only twelve girls on this year ' s team, and only two of those had lettered in hockey, most of the others had played on the junior varsity level, despite the lack of experience, the team compiled a 5-0-0 record in the district and a 7-1-0 record in the county to claim both championships, junior kathy schniedwind was instrumental in giving the spartans their fine record, as she scored 13 of the 18 spartans points, goalie priscilla reynolds, also a junior, was the primary factor in holding the opposi¬ tion teams to a total of 4 points. kathy schniedwind anna puffenberger patty gordon pat frear priscilla reynolds daisy wright brenda wolfe adrienne strong sue carver joyce coombs kathleen murphy terri brewster, mgr. not pictured: kathi h offman VARSlty hockey the junior varsity hockey team began its season hope¬ fully, looking forward to repeating last year ' s winning record, the girls lost only one game during the season, but won only one while tying six. although the record may seem inconclusive, it does show that the team will be a threat in the future. For most of the girls, this was the first year on a hockey team, and their record is a credit to their hard work, the defense worked especially hard, keeping the scores low all season, many of this year ' s team members will be returning next year, and their spirit and hard work should boost the j.v. to a championship season, those girls that go on to the varsity level will help that team along the road to a third straight winning year. j.v. hockey june styron pat mar ten debbie sisk cathy woodcock joanne moore andi michael condy shumate roberta bullock jetta sherar judy harner pat raabe pat preble linda bredl cherry martin ORTS Opponent Fort Hunt 1 Edison 0 Fairfax 1 Lee 0 Groveton 1 Madison 1 Mt.
