The spirit of West Seattle is not a thing you can put your finger on. You can't point and say: HThere it isln But that it does exist is a fact beyond question. We see it at athletic contests, where we always have many people from the community supporting our teams. We see it in the summer at the Hi-Yu. We see it in the many active service clubs - oh, it exists all right. And a very good thing it is, too. One of the problems of living in a large city is that one may become foot-loose, lost, rootless, just another member of the lonely crowd. We do not thrive under such conditions, as we have a need to belongg we want to be important parts of the society in which we live. We are grateful that in West Seattle we have a com- munity feeling. We have a place where we belong. We have a home. -ff-AQ f if f p Parents take interest at Open House

Talent Assembly Who done it? Active C0u1'1Cil? To illustrate the value of good student-faculty relations and to train the citizens of tomorrow to develop a sense of civic responsibility is the purpose of the Cooperative School Government at West Seattle. Plans for each year's activities are started the preceding summer as the C.S.C. officers and commissioners prepare for the months ahead. Bringing with it the sense of a fresh start, the fall semester begins with an introduction assembly and the develop- ment of new student organizations. Next we enjoyed winning the annual 'Paddle Battle' Seasons' Pass Contest with Ballard High School. Football halftimes, registration, the maintenance prob- lems, publicizing school activities and helping student or- ganizations and planning West Seattle Day, are only a few of the limitless duties which keep the C.S.C. occupied during the year.
