M blue 84 20111 commencement L L Q he theme of this year's Commencement pro- gram was Wllhe Meaning of a High School Education. Rather than a summary of the student's formal education it was an interpretation of his growth through high school. Wfhe Meaning of a High School Educa- tioni' is, of course, a development of the Annual theme, uSchool Spirit, only in rather a different sense. Bess Lowry, Salutatorian, touched upon the high school of a few generations ago. The speakers following each discussed a different phase of his growth in high school: Thurley Haga, 5'W01'k,,g Max Owsley, GLeisure',, Don Hiatt, MAH Appreciationvg Zoe Lund, '6Tolerance, giv- ing a definite example of school life and its relation to his subject. Stanley Gibson, Valedictorian, told something of the ideal school of the future. The musical part of the program, under the direction of Mr. Behy- mer, was rather different. In place of the solos usually offered, several chorus numbers were given, including a great many more students upon the program. Deva Parrott gave a very lovely violin solo. v , ZOE LUND STANLEY GIBSON H THURLEY HAGA ,, DON HIATT Bess Lowm' MAX OYVSLEY L A 15 A

Qblue ai gold if John Gilbert, President: Max Owsley, Vive-Presidentg Eleanor Banla, Secrelaryg Paul Duckwilz, Treasurer senior C ass Q Q L ow thatxwe are Seniors and have at last at- tained those heights to which we once gazed with awe and wonder, the Class of '29 looks backward to those first awkward days in West Seattle High. As Freshmen, the class was given its start with Bob Thompson, president, lrene'La Grave, vice-president, Ruth La Grave, secretary, and Ruth Morrell, treasurer. Mr. Lemmel consented to act as advisor, and ever since, he has been the spirit and 'Lpepv leader of the class. During the next year the class put on HA Case of Suspension, which proved a wonderful success. Many of those in the cast have since dis- tinguished themselves by being foremost in the later dramatic offerings. Toward the end of the Junior year a new election was held in which John Gilbert, president, Max Owsley, vice-president, Eleanor Banta, secretary, and Paul Duckwitz, treasurer, emerged victorious. These acted as Senior officers. The Senior Council consisted of Ray Camp, Sarahjane Paulson, Marny Collins, Nancy McFate, and Marjorie Rae. The biggest event of the year was the Senior Play, wlfhe Taming of the Shrewf, which carried off all honors and shattered all records of attendance. And now at leaving, our minds are mingled with thoughts of joy and regret-joy of having successfully reached our goal and regret at hav- ing to leave this place which has meant so much to us. In former years every graduation class has had an underlying suspicion that the world has long been waiting for its entrance into its centers M,.Le,,,,,,el of business-this class is sure of it.
