COMMERCIAL DEPARTMENT: Back row, Raymond Murphy, George Jaftray, Harland Smith, Carl Fromme, Jean Hollenbeck. Front row: Frank Watson, Mary Conley, Lillian Heinzle. Students who wish to enter business directly after graduation from high school find the Commercial Department's courses helpful in training for a career. The department gives vocational training in typing, shorthand, bookkeeping, and office machines. Specialized subiects include retail distribution, business math, economic geography, and business law. Special typing is a one year course de- signed particularly for students not taking business courses who wish to acquire this skill. Members of the oFtice practice classes work in the school olrtice during class hours. On the opposite page are the students who run the bookstore, thereby gaining practical business experience. Immediately above them are the girls who work as cashiers in the lunchroom, acquiring practice in the work for which they are studying. ln the Commercial Department theory and practice are combined wherever possible. 28
