HISTORY DEPARTMENT! Santo Patti, Mary Mans, Edward Halbleib, Harvey Lockwood, George Lombart, Dayton Fleming, Frances Hersey, Ellen Baist. The History Department offers a wide range of subiects from General Education, a two-period com- bined history and English class lor eighth graders, to Problems of Democracy, a course dealing with the personal, social, and economic problems ol young adults. ln social studies freshmen study government, economics, and geography. Tenth and eleventh graders take courses in World History and American History. The state requires students to take all the above courses except Problems of Democracy. The History Department also sponsors the annual broadcasts ol the Junior Town Meeting of the Air, sends delegates to the Franklin Forum and to student government conferences, and supervises the Voice of Democracy and the United Nations contests. 8

The House of Representatives is composed ot representatives elected from each homeroom. Its presiding officer is the vice-presidnt of the Student Association, David Pearce. The House approves the budget and dates for dances, plays, and other special programs. It sug- gests improvements in the handling of student affairs, initiates revisions in student government, and sets up election procedures.
