X f l I l For the last five years, the class of '53 has been iourneying on the stream- lined train we call West High. That train has transported us from childhood to near-adulthood, from carefree indifference to aclearer conception of the world around us. We have learned much en route, we have acquired many valuable skills, we have been fitted to become citizens of tomorrow's world. Our debarcation from this adventure swiftly approaches, the destination is already visible to some. Many experiences of drama, joy, and the satisfaction of service have been ours. Soon our seats will be occupied by a new group of passengers, but we shall never forget the train trip we took, which carried us farther than we knew. if s f X .ff 1 1. UAW. ...fer At midyear Mr. W. J. Arnold of the Business Department retired. We regret his loss and extend to him our best wishes for the future. Mr. Arnold's place is being taken for the second semester by Mrs. Marie Stutzman, whom we welcome to West High. Mrs. Marion Webster, our psychologist, also left us at the end of the first term. Her place is being taken by Mrs. Helene Dunning. The class of 1953 is glad to welcome to our ranks Marion Werner, a senior who came to us from Syracuse. We are sorry that she arrived too late for us to include her picture in the Senior Section. Marie Stutzman Leo Mannaert of Brussels, Belgium, has been with us this year as a Teen Age Diplomat. Through his experience in his own school in stu- dent government and on his school paper, he has been able to contribute much to West High life. The accompanying pic- ture testifies to his artis- tic abili? and to the work he has one for us as a scene painter . ln his short stay here Leo has won a high rank in the class, both scholastically and socially.
