Poor fielding hampered the team, but this was partially offset by the fine pitching of strikeout artists Don Renehan and Ben Avery, who tossed a brilliant one-hitter against Charlotte. Jerry Donoghue, first base outfielders Don Boyd and Gene Zielke, and sophomore third baseman Don Miller were the leading hitters.
