They finished 2nd in the East Huskers Conference behind a tough Scribner team. This was Coach Reggie Smith's first year of coaching football at WPHS. Assisting Coach Smith were Steve Miller and Dave Rich. This year’s record matched that of last year's Co-Husker Champs. Making the East Husker All-Conference Team were: Dan Lofgren—Offensive Back, Clint Poppe—Offensive End. Steve Schulz—Offensive Lineman and Defensive Lineman. Brian Lierman—Defensive Linebacker. The following made the 2nd team: Scott Luebbe—Defensive Lineman. Randy Schademann—Defensive Back. Rex Nolte—Defensive Linebacker, and Offensive Back. B Basketball Team Wins Holiday Tourney Gary Meyer and Gregg Meyer The highlight of the basketball season was West Point's first place finish in the West Point Holiday Basketball Tournament. The team ended with an 18-4 season. In other tournaments the Cadets had a 3rd place finish in the Husker East, and 2nd place finish in the district tournament. Highlights included a new conference record by the freshmen mile relay team and a new school record of 10.0 in the 100 yd. dash by Dan Lofgren.
