XVestcrn's acting world is kept busy under the instructive hands of its new sponsor, Mrs. Rita Smith. As a regular project the Dramatic Club is constantly engaged in perfecting diction, and in reading plays. This term, two members, Miriam Prince and Beverlee Bearnaan have been awarded the traditional pins of comedy and tragedy maslts. This is symbolic of outstanding service and a membership of three years. The purpose of the Future Nurses Club is to furnish information about various nursing schools. The members, who meet after school every Thursday, are given the requirements of the schools and other necessary data. This term, information about Board of Edu- cation Scholarships was supplied by Vickie Palmer, president of the club. During the term, some of the girls who formerly received their scholarships and are now in training, came back and spoke to the club on their hospital ex- periences. The George Montgomery Chapter of the Future Teachers of America Club is named in honor of Western's former principal. Under the sponsorship of Miss Mary Leona Gaynor, the club as- sists the Lea Elementary School during lunch periods. This term, under the direction of its president, Elaine Antman, the club dis- tributed apples to all of the teachers in the school on Salute to Teachers' Day. The Club The French Club The Latin Club The Spanish Club The French Club, sponsored by Miss Janet Swerlick, published :t French newspaper. Its name was Le Blagueurf' which means l'The Joker. French songs, jokes, crossword puzzles and articles about the foods and customs of the people of France were a few of the enjoyable features. One of the members of the club related to the club his ex- periences in Europe the summer before. The president was Joan Hairston. Under the guidance of its sponsor, Mrs. Nettie Groll, the Latin Club con- centrates much attention on preparing the Gubernator, its termly publica- tion. To encourage interest in the classics, members spend a good deal of time tape-recording various plays con- nected with ancient Greek themes. This term's oilicers are Elaine Krisch, presidentg Eleanor Parris, vice-presi- dent, Burton Schwartz, recording sec- retary, Adelenc Curry, treasurer: Zebu- lin Bnddicli, sergeant-at-arms, Harvey Hirsch, editor of the Gubernator. f,Hahlas espanol? Do you speak Span- ish? The place for those who do is XY'estcrn's Spanish Club. Here, under the supervision of Mrs. hlarie Pagan and Mrs. Helen Brown, interested stu- dents are improving their knowledge of the language, and of the Spanish people. This term, the president, Julie Blat- man, and the members saw a demonstra- tion of Spanish coolting, and had at Christmas party with a pinata. They also sold calendars with original Spanish greetings and paintings.
