To- day, Americans living in the new na- tion, the greatest democracy in the world, enjoy the liberty and equality established by their forefathers. With this liberty comes great progress through education. The great insti- tution of American education has taught us to appreciate and respect our freedom. Now, as the end of our high school career draws near, we, the graduating class of June I939, promise that we will do our utmost to advance our democracy, and that if it be within our power government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth.

E the youth of today, are about to break a close association and follow diverse paths through the years to come. We set forth with will and enthusiasm to reach for goals. Let us also hope for courage and stamina to attain those goals, for vision and un- derstanding to deal with life's problems. Upon us will soon rest the respon- sibility of a nation, its government and welfare. May the splendid foundation which we have received strengthen us in our decisions and set o high standard for us to maintain, may it help us to be tolerant, just, and wise. We give thanks for our youth and ideals, and we earnestly hope that we may retain them through years of trouble ond years of prosperity. lt is to youth that we dedicate this record of our achievements, to youth whose duty it is to cope with the per- plexing problems of the world, and to preserve the peace and democracy of our great country.
