sl -1-vw, -- --',n'l'. ' REETINGS TO THE CLASS OF JUNE, 1933: When the ear is attuned, otherwise ordinary sounds become music. To the modernist, a steamboat whistle, the throb of machinery, the bustle of a busy day may suggest the theme of a symphony. The sensitive ear of the composer detects undertones and rhythm, which may be blended and varied to pro- duce a pleasing harmony, softly charming, or vitally stimulating. Those who cultivate the listening ear find new worlds opening before them, where quite common- place affairs take on new meaning and hitherto-un- known rhythms add zest to the adventure of living.
