'CILASS IH Il STIDIDY AE -f Now shui' The Log-'fis wrii' and done. l+'s dared-signed in blue, This our ship is beached on land This our 'lrip is ihrough. NEARLY in the year of '27, the vanguard of our company, having exhausted every possible source of learning and discovery afforded them in their previous homes, set out in search of a new field of endeavor, Because of the adventure it promised, because of its vast Helds of knowledge yet to be conquered, Western was chosen for exploration. Here, our van, despite the usual drubbing they took at the hands of the natives fthe upper classmenj soon learned to love their new home. In fact, the main body of our sturdy band then stationed at the Junior High, received such favorf able dispatches from them that they, too, decided to embark for the new post. So it was that, about a year later, the group now being known as fullffledged 'iSuffermores, the whole of our band was united, to participate in the pursuit of newffound happiness. The newfcomers, too, soon began to find joy in backing teams on the field of battle, in taking part in various school activities, in themselves striving on the firing line of athletics. Most of us, nay, all of us, cherished this pleasure, and prided ourselves on its possession, as a child flourishes a new toy, because it meant so much to us. It meant that we were at last a cog in the machinery of school life. It was at this point of our high school career that we took it upon ourselves to choose the colors of our everfadvancing flag of exploration. Crimson and silver were chosen as the colors we would follow and love, not merely for the next three years, but for eternity. But it was not until we found ourselves well into our junior year that we thought of establishing any form of government whatsoever. With Mrs. Weston and Mr. W. E. Roberts as our sponsors, we went along in fine style and were soon able to boast of a president, a vicefpresident, and a secretary. David Fer- guson, Helen Gould, and Eleanor Cooke were selected by the class to fill these offices. Under their skillful leadership, with the aid of a Junior Council, we were guided sucf cessfully through a most diflicult junior year. The Council selected for us a very Twenty-c ne

4 THE RECORD if CLASS COUNCIL eficient Ring Committee. Under the able chairmanship of Emily Kaissling, the comf mittee functioned smoothly and rapidly, in fact so rapidly that ere we had entered our Senior year we had for our very own the emblem of the class, those rings which we so proudly flaunted before the dazzled eyes of younger explorers. With the opening of our Senior year came the problem of electing permanent officers who would lead us through the labyrinth of difliculties which the ensuing months held in store for us. After much campaigning, john Zierdt, president, Mary Savage, vicefpresidentg Peggy Sawyer, treasurer, and Irwin Benjamin, secretary, were selected. All of us owe a debt of thanks to these loyal members of our class for the tireless service they have rendered. Their first piece of official work was the selecf tion of a Benefit Committee. Some fifty odd dollars was added to our treasury by the eflicient work of this committee, made up of Muriel Smythe, chairman, and Lois Schenberg, Isabella Crowder, Eva Adams, Pauline McLean, Henry Jenkinson, Mar' garet Green, Maurice Weinberg, Merle Fay, and Milton Marquet, The benent was staged at the Tower Theatre and we all enjoyed two hours of delightful comedy en' titled, High Society Blues. Before our Senior year had half spent itself, our men, eager for new fields to conf quer, spent a weekfend at Washington. To laud the exploits of these intrepid men would take pages of highfpowered literature. Therefore, that you may better enjoy the details, we refer you to the official log of the Washington jaunt. It is difhcult to tell, now, whether the boys conquered or were conquered, but we're certain that they had a weak end! fKokomo says it was the wallet.j Our first undertaking as high and mighty Seniors was the election of our 12B Twenfv-two
