To the Class of February, 1931: XFTER fours years of work and play, you are ready to seek new worlds to conf A querf' Life will not be very different. The qualities which brought success or failure, joy or happiness, here in West Philadelphia High School will produce the same result in the future. Profit by this experience. You have learned from your work in the classroom, from your clubs and sports, and from the class activities, that hard work, cofoperation, loyal and unselfish service, and honesty in all things, are the qualities you have admired in your classmates. Develop them each dayg for with these ideals, you need not be afraid of the problems which lie ahead. Go out to meet them with the dauntless spirit of the men of the Renaissance. Prove all things, hold fast to the good. It has been a great pleasure to act as sponsor of the classg and I shall watch with interest the progress of each of you in the path of the coming years. l To the Class of February, 1931: II N October I drove over that splendid road from the Wind Gap, paralleling the mountain ridge for twentyffive miles to the Lackawanna Trail, and then westward to the top of the Pocono ranges. The day was wonderfully line, fleecy clouds floated against a blue sky, falling leaves rustled lazily to the earth. The forest was in full autumn beauty, crimson in the sumachs and in the fivefleaved ivy, scarlet in the swamp maples, yellow in the tulip poplars, and a host of less vivid colorings in the beeches, oaks, and maples. Dark green splotches of spruces and hemlocks accentuated the duller colors. It was a sight to lift one out of the humdrum things of everyday existence. In a class as large as yours, one finds continual variety in individuals-some stand out most vividly in the various activities, classroom, athletics, dramatics, scholar' ship, character building. Each has played a part, each has accepted or disdained opportunities to advance. As you have grasped and used opportunities, so will you have confidence and courage to solve future problems when school days. lie far behind. Sincerely yours, WILLIAM ELY ROBERTS.
