T Cl the Clary of F ebrfmry, 1930: O doubt you all remember that there was great difficulty last term in finding for the class a suitable motto. In fact, none was decided upon. Yet as I review the class achievements, it seems to me that you have, nevertheless, adopted an admirable one. It has been inspiring to see the sincere way that you have worked unselnshly for each other, for the class, and for the school. The motto that you have chosen, therefore, in deeds, if not in words, is Service. My' commencement Wish for you will be fulfilled if you continue in What- ever place you take in the World to Work as generously and joyfully as you have here at VVest Philadelphia, and to be alive to every opportunity for service. T0 the jl4?77ZLR'?7f'.S' of the Gracimzting Class of Felnfzmry 1930.- HE young people who attend our public high schools today have opportunities and advantages of which their parents hardly dreamed. Those of us who have served the interests of the younger generation over a considerable period of years have witnessed a wonderful development of educational activities. The traditionally established courses of study have formed the basis for a marvelous structure of interests that is well able to meet the active needs of the most versatile students. Sports of all kinds, clubs of the most varied nature, music, art, dramatics, moving pictures, excursions, school newspapers and magazines, library facilities, and a host of other things have combined with a wonderful equipment to make the modern high school a complicated but fascinating piece of educational machinery. Is all this good? YVill it stand the test of time? Ts it desir- able for a public school to make such efforts to enrich the experi- ence of its pupils and the life of the community which it serves? The answer to these questions is to be found only in the lives of the graduates of the school. To you we look for the realization of our aims and for the results of our eEorts. And we feel that you, in your turn, as future citizens, will justify our great confi- dence in you and that you will continue to give your unfailing support to the proper development of our great public schools. You are leaving, young men and young WOIHCI1. You have now reached a parting of the ways. Not only is it a parting from your school, but it is a parting from one another. As the heam of light is broken up hy the prism into its component rays, so is your class being separated into its individuals, each facing the unknown, and each seeking a path to success and happiness.
