Germany, on August 21, 1849, the Reverend Mother Pauline von Nlallinckrodt organized the Congregation of the Sisters of Christian Charity to care for blind children. ln a short time the work was extended to include many avenues of education. So rapidly did the l'ommunity grow that close to three thousand are now laboring in North and South America as well as in all parts of liurope. With the growth of the Community. there was a corresponding growth of interests and labors: schools, hospitals, dispensaries, homes for the orphans and the aged, homes for the delinquent and the working girls. also houses for catechetical centers as well as retreat houses.
