'T'-I-4-EI C-3L.-E-CSFYW 193 ISCIPLINE at West Catholic, which originates in the student lwody itself, is also under the direction of the Sisters of Christian Charity. The Student Government Association consists of an executive group composed of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and four Student Counsellors, one from each class. Each section keeps in touch with the central association through its represenf tativc elected hy the students of her group, Utfenders against school law and order are tried and sentenced hy a jury of their peers'-a student court of judges and jurors who hear evidence and pass sentence. Memlwers of this organization are elected hy the students for their qualities of leadership, honor, integrity, courtesy, and selffcontrol. Student Government in West Catholic, though, is not a government of other students hut a government of every student for the good of all. Al'STIN Sisria M.-iamxiiix COMMERCIAL DEPARTMENT EVEN years ago the Sisters of Christian Charity launched upon their teaching career at West Catholic. At first thc Community was represented hy two Sisters, who assisted in the mathematics department and conducted several classes in music. It was not until 1932 that these Sisters were placed in charge of the commercial department, one of the largest and most important divisions of the entire school, The comf mercial students roster almost invariahly includes, along with stenography and typing, the elective hnsiness suhiects and secretarial studies. Dictaphones, ediphoncs, hookkeeping machines, calculators operated hoth hy hand and hy elec' tricity coniptometers. adding machines. and duplicators ot various kinds, in fact every time and lahorfsaving device known in thc modern husiness ollice, are at the disposal ol' the students in the secretarial group. ln addition to this the commercial equipment includes one hundrcd and sixty stand' ard typewriters, where the students acquire speed and accuracy. Through the arduous efforts of the Sisters of Christian Charity, the XVcst Catholic commercial course well prepares students to meet the demands of the modern husiness world. T4-I-E C-3L.-E-QFYX 1935 PHYSICAL TRAININ EST CATHOLIC, following the ancient advice con' cerning a sane mind in a sound body, requires physical training on every students roster. This department is efhciently administered through the combined efforts of Miss Louise La Sala, Miss Flora De Laurentes, and Miss Genevieve Rowley. The Freshmen are initiated into the mysteries of folk and aesthetic dancing. The combined Sophomore and Junior Classes specialize in advanced expresf sionistic dancing and apparatus work-horses, rings, and ropes. Clubfswinging, more apparatus work, and very advanced rhythmic expression comprise the Seniors' schedule. In addition to their class work these teachers ably supervise all extrafcurricular athletics, such as swimming and horse' back riding, with the exception of basketball which is under the capable direction of Miss Sue Dougherty.
