Rim TVTAl7l'Ll,INli PUBLICATIONS U twentiethfcentury high school is eomplete without essays into the puhlishing field and these endeavors fall quite naturally under the direction of the English Def partment. West Catholic sponsors the Reaper and the GLFXM. The former, a newspaper, is a monthly puhlication through which a student staff of editors, trained in the newsfwriting classes, keeps West Catholics little world apace with the events of the hour. ln this field a student may develop her talents as an editorial writer, a chatty columnist, a stat' reporter, or a cartoonist. The GLEAM, a literary magazine, is puhlished semi' annually. The midfyear numher, consisting of stories, essays, poems, and feature articles, is an incentive to the latent literary ahility of the student hotly. The graduation edition, with its pictures of students and numerous activities, is a memory hook for future years. Ever alive to new currents of thought, while holding fast the hest of the past, the Sisters of St. joseph chart the course of our puhlications. C.ixTHiiRiNri Ulla.-xiw, '35 Ezglit

Among the most important of these are the four annual retreats, -rrf -two days spent in prayer, recollection, and conferences supervised by carefullyfchosen retreat masters. Again the Sisters see to it that the day-afterfday monotf ony of the school year is broken here and there by lectures on subjects entertaining and cultural. The Nlollipopfdelightsu of Freshman Day and the excitement of junior Week come in for their share of attention. The Christmas Play, the Senior Play, and the junior Play are all the results of their capable organization. In November comes the Annual Card Party and Promenade, involving many details. Class Day, with its cherished favors, and the Senior trip are memorable occasions because of their thoughtful planning. Graduation exercises in Convention Hall, the culminating point of the year, are, in themselves, an undertaking requiring long weeks of unremitting preparation and administrative skill. 'T-I-I-E SLE-QFYN 1935 USIC in West Catholic is taught and supervised by three Sisters of St. joseph, whose work is grouped under two general classifications: Curricular and extraf curricular. For Sophomores, the former entails two periods a week of theory of music, for Seniors and Freshmen, assembly singing. The Senior Class is fostered as a unit for choral. Because of their numbers, the Freshmen pre- sented some difhculties in the early part of the year, but each problem child is now met twice a week at a study period assigned especially for music. The extrafcur' ricular work embraces the Glee Club, Orchestra, and Band, the members of which receive individual and group instrucf tions from the most competent professional teachers. The direction of the dramatic activities is delegated to Miss Margaret Mary Kearney, who as a coach has carried through nearly all ventures in this Field during the school's short history. ln addition to this, Miss Kearney conducts a Public Speaking Class where the students pursue the charm that lies in a cultured voice. Thus in classroom teaching of English and music and in multifarious student activities, the Sisters of Saint joseph serve West Catholic. GENEVIEVE MYRTETUS, '35. Sisrnrt SISTER M.
