This performance followed fifty-four years after the debut performance held in Budapest, Hungary. Carousel is a musical adaptation of Frederic lVlolnar's classic drama, Lliom, presenting a ro- mantic view of life with the seriousness and con- tradictions of human nature. This Spring the West Ottawa Chapter of the Na- tional Thespian Society will produce the first an- nual Educational Theatre Production. Normal high school dramatics is confined by conventions and demands placed upon it by the need to attract and please an audience. This is particularly true at West Ottawa as our theatre pro- gram is to a great extent self-supporting and de- pendent upon ticket sales for its perpetuation. ln Educational Theatre we are concerned only with the learning experience provided for students involved in the production. ln order to provide a rich learning situation, we will ignore many of the conventions and tabus of the high school stage. We will strive to produce plays based on their literary and educational value. Although we will invite and anticipate an audience, they will be there as the guests of the students. The audience will see a learning experience. This does not mean that the plays will not be en- joyable. We feel that many in our audience will find these plays to be the most enjoyable of the year. Our L'Educational Playsv will be produced under the direction of a member of the faculty staff with many of our most capable students on stage and backstage. We will produce plays of noted or even great playwrights. Each production will be in full costume, scenery, lights, etc. ln other words, each play will be a full scale production. This yearis Educational Theater Production will be THE GLASS MENAGERIE by one of America,s most outstanding authors, Tennessee Williams. i.... '!fl' , 7 K F?
