It seemed as though the West quint vsas unable to get started and their shooting was far from its usual form. No game being scheduled for the following Friday the Panthers played the U Frosh in the home gym. The game was a nip and tuck affair until the last few minutes when some spectacular shooting on the part of the Panthers enabled them to trounce the Frosh team. Because of illn-ess Carman and Williams were unable to play in the last game with Granite and the Farmers triumphed over the West squad by a score of 27 to 24. By virtue of being in second plaoe the Panthers were enabled to enter the championship tournament. Theirifirst opponent in the tournament was the fast Park City Five who through their wonderful playing in the league were slated to win. Displaying the best form of the season the Panthers easily took the Miners into camp by the score of 48 to 24. ' American Fork took the Panther scalp in the next game the following night which eliminated the Panthers from any further chances for the pennant. Due to the large number of boys enrolled in the gym classes Instructors Roy lVIclntyre and Homer Christensen gave an advanced course in the art of self defence. After afexx weeks of training the gym classes finally gave a smoker which consisted of some of the fastest and closest boxing and wrestling matches ever seen in this part of the country. The feature of this ex ent xx as the presence of lra Dern middlexveight xx restling champion of the world and A. Smertv one of the leading amateur wrestlers of the intermountain district. In the A. A. U. boxing and wrestling tournament herd the latter part of the year, the West high school enterd a number of likely candidates. Only one of the West entries survived the tournament Henry Carrick who fought his way to champion of the 108 pound class for which he received a handsome gold medal. Too much credit can not be given Coaches Roy Mclntyre and Homer Christensen for their work in the gym classes. Although the classes were exceedingly large, the coaches handled them in such away that every lad was well styled in the art of self defence at the end of the year. 75 71 , fx KN W M, .,,,., vw.. .,.-.l!1?f'?-x f HAY A--We--we A-A -'-- fm -'V Aw'-YDC ya mfs .. .... aaffwaa as as if x . fi- -, g..i1iV A E T A. vi,gT.,.j.g11i itgii.,1T'e'ii'siTM y Yi v ' I f ' 3 ' v y ' c lv . .
