OCCIDENT FRUITION TINY shoot upreared its head To leave its cozy winter bed, And gently cleaving fragrant ground, VVith wide ope'd eyes it looked around. Although the chill winds often blew It struggled on and greener grew. Each day the sun or gentle rain Enabled it more strength to gain, Till in the midst of summer's heat The weary paused, for at their feet A blooming flower of beauty rare Transformed the seasonis sultry air. 'lust as the plant came forth one day From sheltered Cove. we go our way. VVe long to clasp a friendly handg The world to us is foreign land. Success may come. lYe do not know, But laboring on we wiser grow.
