MR. JOHN BEHRENDT MISS MARY JO BOARDMAN History History MR. LLOYD JOHNSON History History Department The History Department taught a well rounded three year program. It included a history of the United States of America in a world setting for the first two years and a modern problems class to promote better international understanding for the third year. Furthermore, the development of civilization was stressed as a purpose of the unit. MR. DAVID PRIMROSE History Language Department Because of the federal grant for the language laboratory, the teachers of French, German, Latin, and Spanish were able to teach the spoken language. MR. HAROLD BAILEY English MISS SELMA BLESSIN English The Keepers of the KEYS English Department This year the English Department covered programs of pre-planned courses for each grade. All the teachers developed their course of teaching to include a study of literature, composition, and the mechanics of writing. A monthly discussion was held to improve the curriculum. Also included as a part of this program were the speech, drama, and journalism classes. The Drama Department sponsored many activities while the journalism class edited the famous West High Times. ANCIL ILSTRUP Physical Education MISS CAROL PETERSON Physical Education Mathematics Department The Mathematics Department specialized in accelerated classes this year. Extra emphasis was placed on a preparatory college course for seniors while there was a similar program for underclassmen. Science Department The Science Department, including biology, physics, and chemistry’, had a very constructive year. Next year new laboratories will be provided for all three subjects enabling more experimentation by the students. Physical Education Department The Physical Education department is pleased with the new showers and locker rooms in the girls' and boys’ gyms.
