RUTH WAITE First Semester Head Girl 0 Well, cowpokes, we're on the top at last! We've run, or walked, or stumbled, as the case may be. Many of us are ready to start to col- lege: others have jobs to which they put their shoulders: while some just stand hesitating as to their future steps. No one knows who of us will ride the crest of the next wave or be submerged. At any rate, it's been a genuine pleasure to work with you, and I only wish we had more years to spend together. STANLEY JOHNSON First Semester Head Boy 0 To all those concerned, including my- self, it has been a genuine privilege to see, appreciate, and assist in developing the friendly, family, attitude of social and personal relationships which have earned a blue-ribbon climax for the first semester, 1938-1939, here in West High School.

'7fze Seniafz- 81644 Now that the branding season is over, each experienced cow puncher saddles his pony for the higher climb. Reins in hand, he pauses beside the old corral fence to bid good-bye to all the other riders, foremen, and ten- derfeet. With tear-dimmed eyes, he gazes over the rancho. Each post and piling fixes itself in his memory. Again he sees the ringleaders of the thundering herd, the Old Faithfuls, help the stumbling tenderfeet to recapture their places on the saddles. Many a cowlassie and laddy can't stay with his horse of knowledge, leadership or friendship. From the stirrup slips the boot of the clinging buckaroo. Before he is thrown from the bronco, the bridle- wise set him steady once more without raising much dust. When the tenderfeet finally become first-class Old Faithfuls, in the fourth year, they are allowed a part in the famous Bulldoggin' Ring. Coming out of his reverie, the top-hand mounts his steed. waves a farewell to his pardners: and spurring his horse, rides up the shadowed trail leading to a bigger ranch.
