S ecrerary ...... - ............ ....... S OPHIE ATHENS Sponsor-MISS LOUISE PECK. The French Club of West High School was organized for the purpose of affording a more informal use of the language. lt is a wonderful opportunity for those who are no longer in the French classes to continue their French practice. Students who join the club must have completed one semester of French: and during this time they participate in the work of the club, they learn to love and appreciate the French language and customs because the club makes it possible to study the background of the French people to a greater degree than that afforded by a class period. In a club, beginning French pupils are placed on the same level with those who are much more advanced: thus a wider vocabulary and greater knowledge of the language may be gained. Finally, there are things of interest that may be take nup in a club where class time is lacking for them, such as: songs, litera- tures, riddles, games, puzzles, anecdotes. In the words of a French poet, The days that make us happy, make us wise : thus a club fulfills its mission.
