CARLTON .XYLARD There are thirty-five thousand persons in the world who have qualified for a Federal license for radio operating and transmitting. Ten of these operators are West High School students, and one is a science teacher who has coached the boys in their radio work. Mr. Aylard and his ten boys, Lloyd Burchard, Fred Fowler, Raymond Green, Roy Graber, Frank Ianza, Ronald Kurtz, Virgil Lamb, Max Sanders, Russell Switzer, and Edgar Weber operate a transmitting station from the lower tower room of the school under the call letters of WQHYD. By means of the code system, communication is car- ried on with other Federal operators in every country in the world. Page 114

FRANCES YVEBB As implied by the name, the purpose of the International Relations Club is to further an understanding of World affairs. During the First semester the club trains speakers for the Shafroth extemporaneous speaking contest. Wynona McComb and William Ray were chosen from this group to represent West in the eleventh annual contest. The second semester is devoted to a study of the League of Nations, given in prepa- ration for a country-wide examination on the League and its Work. As additional work, the organization reads and studies about other international affairs. Page 116
