The members have held debates with each high school in Denver and with freshmen at Denver University. The first semester is spent chiefiy in preparation for the spring controversies. November 4, Iames Leaman won the first prize of three dollars for a book of his own selectiong and Clilford McFadden won two dollars, the second award. The members of the society prepared orations on the Kiwanis Americanization Con- test subject, Is Capital Doomed? and delivered the same oration for the XVilliam Dwight Meade contest. Della Frances Milliken won the Meade gold medal for her deliv- ery and thought in preparation on the subject, and Clitiord McFadden was chosen to represent VVest in the Kiwanis contest at North High School, February 2-l. A., the Girl Reserve Club of NVest helps to promote friendship among girls and the spirit of helping others. The many activities include charity work, which is done through distributing baskets of fruit at Thanksgiving and at Christmas. Clothes are also made by the girls for chil- dren in charity institutions. The Girl Reserves operate a second-hand bookstore, which is another evidence of the many activities of this organization. The social activities at the Y. VV. C. A. include an annual Christmas party, the boy-friend party. and the regular Wednesday meetings, which are held for girls from all schools. Page 106
