SPKEY-SP1KEY BANG-BANG Sophomore Andrew Wong types a message during class THE FROSTED LOOK: Senior Deanna Peso! shows off her fashionable hair TAILED OUT: Junior Phil Innarella displays his new-wave look In the past, the only way to truly be in Vogue was through the haircut, the beehive. Then, the long and layered look was in. soon followed by the chic, cropped and gelled spikes. At West Essex, it's clear that the right haircut is as equally as important as it once was. However, it's obvious in the hallways that any haircut is an acceptable haircut, unless it can cause physical harm to another student. With all of the state-of-the- art equipment for impeccable haircare, a person is capable of cutting, spraying, coloring, and molding his hair to death. Hair is definitely a sign of one's own personality, especially at West Essex where there is lhat desire to be the true non-conformist. It is also clearly obvious by noting one's hairsytle. with whom he associates. By observing a typical day at West Essex, one can see that no one is afraid to wear his hair long or short, in tresses or in spikes, plainly, anyone can style, size, or color his hair in any way possible STUDENT LIFE 9

They're getting larger and heavier to wear, but as they say, the bigger, the better. People could be wearing cymbals and no one would give it a second thought. Some opt for the simple but large... but if it isn't big, it better be strange. Students like to display their individuality in different ways. Someone could be wearing large hoop, a foot in diameter, and another could be pos- sibly sporting five different earrings on the same ear Students even create their own earrings, but no matter what they hang on their ear, it'll be distinctly West Essex. Earrings have definitely become a part of a student's wardrobe. Even the guys are displaying their tastes in earrings. They will poke feathers, crosses, and diamonds through their ears, and similar to girls, will wear this jewelry to catch someone's attention, of course, to look good. STUDENT UFE 11
