I dreamed that I was Queen ot space Rzdmg 1n a rocket race Wzth all the Westerners youll see What the future came to be Now leavmg on skyway 4 CGeorgej Rlchard s Rocket sh1p for the Thomas Helton Space Hotel All Westerners please use gate Well we are now on our way to the re un1on of the 58 semor class of West End Hrgh School The year 1S 1973 and we have been asked by B111 Carey and Nell Dobson co-sponsors of the Mr and MISS Umverse Contest to serve as ludges As you know last years w1nners 1ncluded many well known Westerners M1ss Umverse lovely Pat Morgan was escorted by suave Mr Un1 verse Gary Corlew Pats Court was com posed of Betty Swetland Donna Sanders D1ane Se1ber11ng and Sarah Mobley who were escorted by runners up rn the Mr Un1 verse contest Carl Corlew Larry W1lson Morrls Penner and Don Hall On th1s beaunful rocket deslgned by Ken Noble we met stewardesses Iamce Wynne and Sharon Nelson Greetmg us wlth that ever fam1l1ar phrase H1 Hossl was prlot Stephen Bolles The passenger 11st 1ncluded that newly appo1nted justzce of the Supreme Court and well known lawyer Landls Turner and h1s former assoc1ates Iohn Bre1n1g and Steve Francls After arr1v1ng at the hotel bellboys lack Couch B1lly Bogle and Paul Krger took our luggage We declded to get a prev1ew of the latest space fashlons W attended a show1ng at the excluslve HOUSE OF GERI Sl-TERI We were happy to see desrgners Gen Letkovrts and Sheryl Feldman Model mg the fashtons remmrscent of the Frrey F1ll19S were Lee Brandt V1rg1n1a McDan1el Lynn Lazenby and lean Datley Then llke mad hatters we rushed to be on t1me for our ha1r styllng appolntrnent at the COME AWAY BEAUTIFUL SALON owned by Iudle Way and her competent staff wh1ch mcludes Sherrl Wasserman Becky Ellrot and Eve Newsom Peekrng from our ha1r dryers we recogn1zed Sarah Lee P1gue and Ahce Cates co authors of that best seller As Outsrders Our Opznron Of The Human Race recexvmg the newest 28 Prophecy Class sputnxk halrstyle created by Martha lgnatz Rested from our lourney we began CI gala even1ng w1th d1nner at the Mllky Way N1ghtclub owned by mu1t1m1111ona1re Frank Tuttle L1ttle Tutts hat check g1rl Donna Jackson made us welcome After we were seated by head wa1ter Ed Hatcher w recogn1zed our other old frlends Betty LGWIS Dallene Pardue Nanc1 Goldberg Iulla Meeks Iack1e Root and Sally Shxelds the c1garette gxrls runnrng from bouncers Rodney Satterfreld Later we saw Rodney and Rrchard tryrng to settle an argument between B1lly Leath and Davld Holder over who was go1ng to get to go f1rst on Halley s Comet to Pluto The huge d1nner we ordered requlred the servlces of two waltresses who turned out to be two of our old fnends Frances Thrower and Mary Allce Welch To beg1n the floor show M C Iames Crowe 1ntroduced that fast r1s1ng star Gayle Ellls who sang to the muslc ot CDa1on Cope s Crazy Comets Later we and many other Westerners danced to the muslc of the M1nlOH and Harry W1ll1ams who played those old favor1tes Iup1ter Stroll Iack And 1111 On luprter H111 and Say Moon Man Many of these were wr1tten by those famous composers Ianlce Lmk Iudy Kelly L1nda Lawrence Ierry McCu1loh and Wal lace Martm Txred of dancmg we chalypsoed down to Tutt s game room where we parttclpated 1n thr1ll1ng Romantlc Roulett and Spln the Space Bottle The hghts were then turned low and 1n pranced those Marvelous Mer curetts D1x1e Bates Ga1 Bell and Ann Ben son bubbhng out thelr beaunful rhythm The next afternoon we attended the pre mzere of Rock Around The Moon Wxth Me featur1ng that v1vac1ous Jewel Flossle Dramond and her famous leadmg man Davld Maples Included rn the cast were Charles Mahn that three ttme w1nner of the Astero1d Award Johnny Mercer and Larry Neuhoff ll I - I ' I I ll 17.1, . .
