Talker, beware .V To Readers of our Annual: Whether you are thinking of a rambling rural road winding leisurely through hillsides, farmsteads, or orchards, or of a ribbon of cement laid over the country-side from city to city, carrying swiftly moving transport and busy in its roaring, raucous activity, the analogy of progress through high school to the pleasures and hazards of highways is interesting and, it may be, illuminating. Are you the self-reliant hiker who enjoys the invigorating exercise, the sense of achievement, the beauty and wonder of life, and the tried friendship of his companions? Or do you prefer the more com- fortable role of a hitch-hiker, being carried along by swiftly moving vehicles, eager to arrive at new places, stimulated by actions and change around you rather than within you? Is yours the nature of one who loves to mingle with people, to observe their ways and understand them and do it in an unhurried way? Or are you, perhaps, the type of person who is less inclined to exertion and looks more favorably upon the more effortless way of being carried along to new situations and changing scenes? Whichever highway or road you choose, your progress and your destination will be more meaningful and significant, if you travel joyously, alert to the beauties of all seasons, and are persistent in your quest. All hazards and obstacles can then be met courageously and, so, more easily. Profit by such experiences and you will find your traveling along the high school highway ennobling, rewarding and maturing' WILLIAM C. KNOELK, Principal. 28
