Advertising and salesmanship are included in the course for those who find advertising and salesman- ship of special interest. In this course the student is taught how to approach a customer and what methods to use for the various types of people he meets. Advertising is closely connected with the salesmanship side of the business. Not only the getting of ads which is taught in salesmanship but also the ad which will be most effective is taken into consideration. Commercial law helps the business student greatly because he learns the various legal proceedings that are likely to come up in any olice. The room in which office practice is taken is most complete in its equipment. The machines in use are the best to be had. This training is offered in the last year of the commercial course, and gives a student the best preparation he can have before entering a business oflice. The typing and shorthand classes are always large. Bookkeeping, commercial arithmetic, and business forms are other subjects in the commercial course that give the boy or girl who hopes to enter a business oflice invaluable training. To help the V' average person gain a better understanding of the finer things of life is the desire of both the art and Earl Rainier music classes. At different times the corridor walls are lined with drawings, batiks, and carved articles rnade by the art pupils. The students also entered work in the exhibit at the Art Institute this spring. Some of the finest work done in this department throughout the year was selected for this purpose. Music is given much attention at West, not only in the actual class room work, but also in voice training and through training in the band and orchestra.
