It handles all matters concerning discipline, grades, excuses, and attendance. All records of importance concerning students can be found in the oflice. Program cards, enrollment cards, report cards, and physical records are kept on file there. Since the removal of the branch public library, the school has assembled a library of its own, in which all the books are owned by the school. This library is now well started through the efforts of Miss Stoeckle and her student helpers. At the present time the library contains chiefly history and literature books. Current fiction and travel books will be added later. Only students and teachers of the school are allowed to use and take out books. l .Sins ' Safe? fails'-3 Elizabeth Manning 1 f M... .-.::f5pz,. Any latent ability for dramatics is brought out in this course, as a part of the semester is spent in putting on student-coached plays. Most students take eight semesters of English, although only six are necessary for graduation from some courses. In the eighth semester those who are taking English are required to write senior essays. The essay must be expository and must be from eight hundred to twelve hundred words in length. The English department sponsors several of the school activities. Under its guidance the school newspaper, The Comet, and the Senior Annual are produced. The two literary societies, Athena and and Hesperia, are sponsored by English teachers. These two clubs, through debates, promote an interest in logical argument among the stu- dents and aid them in gaining power for leadership.
