REFERENCE COLLECTION MM FOR USE IN THE LIBRARY ONLY BERKELEY PUBLIC LIBRARY BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA BERKELEY PUBLIC LIBRARY 2 TO THE VEST CAMFUS STUDENTS Congratulations to all of you for the fine manner in which you have been able to make the adjustment to the all ninth grade school. As you know, this is our second time around in having all the ninth grade students together. It is not an easy task, so I personally want to thank each and every one of you for your cooperation, pa- tience, and trust, in us, as a staff, in making this campus good for young people. I have always believed that young people can handle any situation. We as adults must continue to reaffirm our trust in you as a group to be able to succeed. There is a tendency for many adults to forget that being a teenager is a very important, yet short span of time in your lives. Many of the experiences you have are unique for you, but not for us as adults . However , this does not lessen the importance of these experiences for each of you. It is our hope and wish that this first year of high school has been a positive experience and will provide the cornerstone for you to build your individual careers . All of us, as adults sincerely wish you the very best in the coming years of your educational experience. In our own way, we shall be watching your progress and certainly want to make ourselves available for any assistance we can provide after you move on. Please know that your f friendship is very important to us and we want to keep it and nurture it. 4 5 6 SEE, I CAN SMILE, REALLY " MR. CRAWFORD MS POSTON MS GARDNER MR. Led by coaches Mendoza and Crawford, a tough and enthusiastic team domin- ated through two scrimmages and six games without a loss. The offense featured two very talented running backs, Chris Toney and William Usher. They were backed up by Jan Bundy and Greg Chatman who also did great jobs. Clarence Lowery came in the middle of the season and had a couple good performances. The re- ceivers were led by Andre Keyes and Thomas Jurd. Nathan Johnson and Eli Connolly also were consistent. The offen- sive line made life hard on opposing def f ensive lines . Center Ben Horowitz was named the most inspirational player and guards Claude Shaw and Pat Thomas opened large holes for the running backs while tack- les David Stem and Kevin ' Marshall were immovable . The defense led by the team MVP Greg Chatman and William Usher only gave up 41 points . The linebackers , William Usher, Greg Chatman and Chris Jefferson overwhelmed the opposition. While the line of Dan Phaner, John Levine, Pat Thomas, Jan Bundy and Kevin Marshall were as solid as a rock. The second- ary put on creditable performances . Thanks should go to Mr. Mendoza and Mr. Crawford for doing a great coaching job. Also the fans the cheerleaders and pom-pom girls did a great job cheering the team on.
