This class has made history in our city. No group of Berkeley students has been faced with a more serious task. On May 19, 1964, a significant far-reaching decision was made by the Board of Education to create the West Campus, Berkeley High School. From that date until the opening of school on Sept. 10, students teachers, and other staff members rolled up their sleeves and worked in an inspired way to launch Berkeley ' s newest school. Following Sept. 10, it did not take long for all to see that this new school would succeed and that even those with honest reser- vations did not obstruct or dampen the new- found enthusiasm among students and teachers alike. Difficult problems were attacked and, though many still remain, there always seemed to be a willingness to work, to resolve, and to find new inspiration in meaningful school success . Never in the history of Berkeley had so many 14-year-old students come together on a single campus. Teachers were quick to dis- cover significant educational advantages; a new, more vigorous school social life has emerged; our school teams seem to echo the success expressed by the ardent rooters; and parents comment on the new dynamic atmosphere which their offspring have been helping to create . It is my wish that this historic, pic- torial record will be a kind of living memory for all of us. I sense that students and teachers alike would want to record that something very significant happened here this year. May this inspired beginning bring happiness and success to those who will follow in your footsteps. Josh Fogel I was honored to have served as the first president of West Campus. It has been a lot of fun and very rewarding. I hope the rest of the world can take a lesson from West Campus as we have proven our maturity in this important way and therefore have earned the right to be given more trust and responsibility. I sincerely hope that succeeding classes will be treated in this manner to a greater extent than were we pioneers. Mr. F.Carl Dwight Principal Anthony Linard As president pro-tern, it was my previlege to serve during those first few hectic weeks. West Campus is now a success. This can only be due to the enthusiastic efforts of both students and faculty, who when faced by a new challenge, per- formed so examplarily. We have proved ourselves worthy of the faith placed in us at the start of this revolutioary pro- gram, and we hope that those who follow in our footsteps will find as much success and pleasure as we who now sadly leave, filled with new friendships and experi- ences that can only be found in an adventure as glorious as ours. Tom Ginger West Campus is a new school. Because of the efforts of Mr. Dwight, The faculty, and the students, it has proven to be a better school. I am very grateful for having been given the opportunity to be your president this year. I would like to thank my fellow officers, the student council, the faculty, and everyone else who helped to make this year a most successful one. It has been a rewarding experience I will never forget.
