He started by christening the 1985-1986 Ses- quicentennial year at Wesleyan as a year devoted to the recognition of “Women of Achievement.” With this goal in mind, many outstanding women were invited to the campus to speak as part of the con¬ vocation series at Wesleyan. Dr. Ackerman was involved in many community activities as well as college activities. He held the honored position of Chairman of the Cherry Blossom Festival in Macon this year. Dr. Ackerman was born in South Carolina and served as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Drew University for nine years before assuming his present position at Wesleyan in 1984. The girls welcomed their dads on Friday and enjoyed dinner out with their favorite men. Saturday was filled with a variety of activities including sports such as the annual father daughter softball game. Others chose to spend the day playing indoor games such as Trivial Pursuit or going on a shopping spree. After dinner that night, fathers and daughters were entertained by a performance from the Wesleyannes in the Burden Parlor. The highlight of the weekend was the “Big Band” dance in the Oval Hall Saturday night. The Hines-Causey Orchestra played the music that dads could dance to,even if the daughters had a little trouble keeping up with them. Sunday end¬ ed a very special weekend for both fathers and their little girls. 3flatt?ers an i augliters iEnjou i 1.Julie Taylor enjoys this dance with her father. 2 Karmen Kimsev slow dances with her dad. 3.Susan and her father show the others how it’s done. Knowing that the fathers would probably not want to dance to three hours ol “Top 40” tunes, CSA provides the more ap¬ propriate ‘‘Big Band” orchestra for this special occassion. Wesleyannes learn that the music their fathers prefer is pretty good after all It takes most of the girls a little while to get used to the different style of dancing. But once they catch on, everyone feels a little more “grown up” even if it is daddy they are dancing with. Some dads always have to get in the spotlight and show off some of their smooth dancing moves. This is the P erfec purtunity to learn a variety of dances since the band plays music from the forties and even some “be-bop” from the fifties.
