Films— experimental, silent, foreign, and contemporary — contributed to the general campus atmosphere. Self-generated projects, or independent studies, were undertaken by 15 students. Senior biology major Eloise Brown worked with the Maternal-Infant Child Health Center in Chicago testing preschool children for lead poisoning. Jan Riddle, senior Spanish major, traveled to Madrid to study Spanish poetry. Mary Catherine Collins, senior American studies major, gained practical experience in public relations with the Wesleyan admissions office. Senior history major Debbie Rix assisted with highway safety research in the Washington office of her congressman, Jack McDonald of 130 Michigan. Kathy Weeks, senior biology major, combined skindiving and underwater photographer in the Florida keys. Elementary education major Susan Wyllys studied the harp with Miss Alice Chalifoux in Cleveland, Ohio. Sophomore American studies major Licia Drinnon worked in Boston in public relations for the Department of Agriculture. Sophomore biology major Linda Robinson analyzed marine specimens for the Department of Natural Resources in Salem, Mass. Juniors Kathy Amidon, Debi Henderson, and Ginger Volosen and sophomores Maelu Darsey and Beth Jenkins, psychology majors, worked in the psychology department of Central State Hospital in Milledgeville. Two English majors, senior Maude Laslie and junior Jill Gerber, compiled original manu¬ scripts. Tours of England and France were made by history students of Miss Cornelia Shiver and art students of Miss Marcia Isaacson. Sociology students of Mr. James Scarborough attended sessions of Bibb County court as they studied criminal justice in Georgia. Aesthetic Sensitivity, American Primitive Art, Applied Journalism, Community Recreation, and Community Resources were among the courses offered. Also included were French Civilization and Culture, French Music since 1900, Future Patterns for Schooling, Jesus Freaks, and Lyrics in Relevant Popular Songs. Organ Design and Registration, Organisms and their Environment, Passport to Travel, a Photographic Study of an American Community, and Political Issues Now were also taught.
