Pierce Chapel Original Building The cornerstone for the original building of Wesleyan College was laid in October of 1836. This building which served both as a housing and educational facility was erected on College Street here in Macon. The 1880’s brought new life to an old building with the remodeling of this College Hill structure. Towers and porches were added to improve the appearance and size. Further development was made in 1928 when the Liberal Arts college was moved from this location to Greater Wesleyan on Rivoli. At this time the old building contained only the Fine Arts division of the college and became known as Wesleyan Conservatory. In 1948 the Fine Arts department was moved to the new campus site. Even though in recent years this building had not been used for educational purposes, it stood as a landmark in the field of education. Old Wesleyan “Old Wesleyan Destroyed!” No, that could never be — As long as life shall last , she will be a part of me; Her towers pointing skyuard , her doors of knowledge wide, Her sacred old Pierce Chapel , where memories abide! . . . u Old Wesleyan destroyed!” No — that could never be , As long as life shall last , she will be a part of me.
