Wentworth founded the Wentworth Military Academy in 1880 he vented the control of the institution with its original buildings and grounds in the bands of a Board of Trustees which was to be composed of a duly elected representative of each of the Evangelical churches of the city of Lexington, and a President. Mr. Wentworth served as President of the Board from 1880 until his death in 1897. at which time he was succeeded by Judge Richard Field. It is the duty of the Board to see that the management of the Academy is entrusted to competent officers and that the standards set by Mr. Wentworth in the original charter are maintained. All members of the Faculty are voted on by the Board and it is provided that such officers in addition to being duly qualified scholastically for the teaching re- quired, must, be men or women of Christian character regularly affiliated with some Evan- gelical church. The Board passes on all diplomas before they are issued to graduates and authorizes the President to sign and i -ue them. The Academy owes no smnll part of its success to the supervision and inspiration furnished by the men who have served on the Itoard of Trustees for the past fifty-one years.
