Lexington is well known in the Wett at an ednoational center, having, hi addition to Wentworth Militaiy Aeademy, three large and iloarishing colleges for yoang ladies. The educational advantages have attracted and retained a refined and onlti- vated class of people; and being one of the oldest and most settled towns in the State, all things conspire to . direct the minds of stadents, who assemble here from all psrts of the West, to habits of study. Counes of Study. Throeooarsesof study, the Classi cal, the Elective and the Busiuegs, are offered below, one of which tnuBt be tfiken by those who expect to gradaate. A select course differing from the above according to the wishes of par- ents, and not embnoing branches conflicting with each other, may be pursued, and certiScates will be awarded in the brandies completed. A gymnasium is always open for use, and the daily miiitaiy drill is as regularly requned as reci- tations, affording one of the best exercises known for physical development. AU pupils from a distance and all the teachers board and lodge in the school, in order that the influence and supervision of the teacher may be con- stantly and most successfully exercised. By this Intimate association between pupil «nd teacher, that part of a youth ' s education which is outside of the text book can be best attended to. They are shielded from evil in- fluences and taught habits of gentility, neatness and punc- tuality. The careless are required and taught how to study, and the ambitious are encouraged to greater en- deavor. The school is, as it were, one large family, in which each teacher occupies the place of a parent or an elder brother to the boys. Locstion. LexiagtOQ, Mis ()uri, is a town of five thousjind in- habitants, about forty miles east of Kansas City, and i t accessible by the Mis souri Kiver and l»y ihe Missouri I ' aoific, the Wabash, and the Santa Fe railroads, it has waterworks, gas, aud a street railway.
