FORWARD. . .
The true American, the Indian, inhabited these areas,-hunted and fished in the
forests and the streams. Apple trees have transplanted forests: highways have replaced
trails: and power dams have been erected where Indians once found streams teeming
with fish. Generations have passed, but the heritage of the Redman is the America of
today. In these pages are recorded the efforts of the Class of 1948 to build strongly
and wisely around that heritage, so .that generations may have as wealthy a heritage
as that left us by the American Indian.

LAWRENCE MEAD, ACTING SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
The most significant symbol of the progressive spirit and the change from the days
ofthe First American who roamed the hills and the prairies with his bow and arrow is
the importance placed upon the necessity oi training superior strength through the chan-
nels ot intelligence and leadership. New fields lie waiting for discovery, and there is
no limit to the hunting grounds where scientific research await the inquiring mind.
