Look, over the door, Enter to Learn ! Now if I can just get this door-ahh-it's open. Humm, it's kind of roomy in here. Ah, fellas, could you tell me where 101 is? Turn left and go down to the end of the hall? Thanks! Gosh, I wonder if I'll ever be that big? Oh, my! Look at all the kids in there! I wonder if I'm supposed to go in? That's the way most of us started out, but we soon became accustomed to the situation at hand. What really brought us together was the scavenger hunt we had at the class party. I can still remember hunting for the items on that impossible list. As the year progressed we voted Don Pieri, Mickey Mallery and Betty Lonsberry to take over the seventh 'grade governmental duties. After getting acquainted with the building and the teachers, we knew what to expect in our second year. We elected Melvena Knox as President of our class and staged a Chinese. melo-drama starring Mick Mallery, janet Cook, Ronnie Lewis fnow in Massachusettsj, and Don Pierif Don Bohne and Nancy jane Gardner did the narrating. Ronald Anderson was appointed editor of the Junior Owl with Sherry Rogers and Jim Hopkins assisting. The party of the year was in celebration of St. Pat's Day when seventy-eight students heard Mick Mallery deliver an excellent recitation in Irish brogue. At last we were in High School and Freshmen depicted our class perfectly. Mick Mallery, Don Pieri, and Tweet Smith were elected as our class officers. Then it came! The girls had their chance and the boys were hoping to be caught by the right girl for the annual Sadie Hawkins Dance at which Mick Mallery and Shirley Horn were selected as the ideal pair. Bill Yerrick's Orchestra furnished the music for the Sping Fever Hop that year and junior high students danced to the theme It Might As Well Be Spring . The sophomore play, Oh, Say Can You Sing? surpassed our wildest expectations and remember the never-to-be-forgotten chorus line, Mitzi Gasdik's black magic and jeannett Follett's .impersonations at our class party, themed The Best Things In Life Are Free? In -the field of politics Mick Mallery, jim Arnold and Nancy Gardner were elected class officers and john Robarts defeated opponents Mick Mallery and jim Arnold for the Council vice-presidency after a hard-fought battle. Then we were Juniors. President Jim Arnold headed our class, assisted by Dorr Corbin and Don Pieri. Nancy, Marge, Shirley, and Mick assumed the editorial duties of the Owl and john and Gus emerged victorious in the student council election over third party candidates, jack and Gene and the two Dons-Pieri and Burdick. Pink elephants and top hats carried out the theme of Moonlight Cocktail at our junior Prom, reigned over by Queen Shirley Horn and attendants, Bev Boyce, Janet Cook, Betty Lonsberry, Barb Burrous and Nancy Gardner. We were seniors at long last. Lois Marsh, Don Pieri and jack Kelsey were elected to govern this eventful year and jack was selected Sonnontouan editor. Mary Lou, Don, Marge, Lois, Shirley, Nancy, jack, and Mick were elected to the Hall of Fame and in December we staged the Broadway play, I Remember Mama . The production scored a direct hit and leads ,janet Cook and Nancy Hazzard turned in memorable performances. Our final class party, the Senior Ball, was a successful Yuletide accom- plishment with Andy Grillo providing music for the Dreamer's Holiday theme. Then senior day, Graduation and the curtain fell on our high school careers. Six years ago we came to the door above which we noted the words Enter To Learn . Now as we depart for the last time, remembering the happy times and trying moments, we thoughtfully gaze at the inscription Go Forth to Serve We entered, we learned, we go forth, we hope, to serve. fi ggjg, ff aww'i'+,.f. It seems like only yesterday that I graduated, but of course it was ten years ago. I wonder what the gang is doing now. Look at that dress! Hm! Gail's Fashions, guess I'll go in. There's Betty Lou Gordon. She must be Gail's secretary. What beautiful models! Why, of course, it's Pat Gibbs and Betty Lonsberry. And there is Winifred Simar typing at the desk. Do my eyes deceive me, or is that Mitzi Gasdik coming into the store? She is the concert mistress at the Philharmonic now. Hello,-Mitzi. What's that about a new clinic? The Boll-Burrous-Mallery Hos- pital, did you say? Well, remind me to go in the next time I need transfusion. How are the nurses? Pretty, I'll bet! Why, of course, with Betty Hubertus, Rena Trow- bridge, Mary Lou Marshall, Marge Magee, Edith Neu, Pat Wonderling, Pat Greene, and Wanda King on the staff. Well, good bye, Mitzi. I think I'll wander by the library to see if I can run into any more of the gang. The library Lhasn't changed a bit except-well, isn't that Bev Boyce, Loraine Gleason and Fran Weber at the desk? There are Jeannette Follett and Bonnie Swarthout, too. I wonder when they get time to read. They are so busy with their social work. As I live and breathe, it's Chuck Vossler autographing copies of his latest book, Behind the Footlightsf' Who is that with him? Of course, Jim Lonsberry and Ernie Hazzard, co-owners of the Madison Square Garden. Here is an interesting set of books, It , in twenty volumes, by Dick Cruwys, Boo Boo Haas, Bill Grastorf, Dorr Corbin, Nelson Potter and jack Kelsey. Next to it is an old volume named Drool , also written by these famous men, the United Artists. Mr. Cruwys is now Art Editor for the Saturday Evening Post and Boo Boo is a commercial painter. Out again to see the sights of Wellsville. Hey, watch it! You almost tripped me with that putter. Why, Andy, you old Pro! How many holes-in-one this week, Kid? I wonder what is happeni.ng at the station. Look at the Super Chief and all the people! It's jack Kelsey campaigning for president! There's his secretary, Lois Marsh. Who are those two solemn figures? It can't Be! It is-Nancy Jane Gardner and jim Hopkins, now serving on the Supreme Court. Look at those two stenographers, Marlene Gilman and Wanda Carlin. Who is that talking to Jack now? Why, it's john Robarts, the famous Curtis salesman, who has now risen to the post of General Manager. The crowd here is huge. There's Bill Grastorf, architect of the Grastorf sykscraper, the largest building in the country outside of New York City. Grace Ellsworth and Barb Trowbridge, costume illustrators, and Pat Hyland, the Wall Street Whirlwind , are here too. Guess I'll go over to school. What's this? Gene Burdick is principal! Look, james Marsh, Melvena Knox, Nancy Hazzard and jo Molin are on the faculty. I'll just go in and-Luman, this is no place to take your scouts on a hike! Who is the imposing man? What a voice! Why it's Don Bohne, the new ambassador to Russia, and his aide, Robert Johnston, home after nine years of sensational success in that country. I'll just look in here. The season was also marked by the fact that it was the first time in several years that a Wellsville baseball team had gained a quarter-final victory and had advanced to the semi-finals of the Section. After defeating Dundee in the quarter-finals the Lions came up against a hard fighting Painted Post nine, which defeated them in an extra inning battle in Red Wing Stadium in Rochester.
