State Champs or 7 Nine Years B57 Over the past nine years, Wells High School, with a co-educa- tional enrollment of only 166 pupils, has established an amazing track record and reputation. In keeping with this reputation was Wells' ninth victory in the state championship match at Colby College in June, 1956. Wells defeated the most closely competing Class S school, Berwick, by 31 and 112 points. Last May, Wells captured the Southem York County Meet by scoring a total of 60 points in all 13 events. Kennebunk, the closest Heaveq-10 rival, was 11 and 112 points behind. BUZZ ABBOTT '56 Wells took third place in the Suburban League Meet which in- cluded many Class L teams. Wells was '7 and 112 points behind Deer- ing, the leader. In all, Wells may be proud of its track record. Tops in Hurdles Up and Over ROBERT BROWN '56 NELSON BROWN '56 and W e Flourished Too, as

A big factor in our victories was our heavy line with Paul Abendroth weighing in at 220, Danny Cook at 185, Keith Burgess at 205, Freddy Gagnon at 170, Pinky Hynes at 205 and the ends, Billy Miller and Dave Hutchinson at 180 and 165. The squad numbered twenty-one and the new uniforms helped to boost the team's morale. Mr. Rand was assisted in his coaching by Vander Forbes of Sanford and to them both goes much credit for our record of three losses and three victories, the most satisfying of all being that 27-7 over our arch-rivals, Kenne- bunk. With a good nucleus of the team left for the next season, Wells' hopes are high for 1957. Proud to Win, Yet Never
